What Are the Common Types of Online Scams?

There are numerous scams out there, and most people don’t even know what they are. It is important to understand what scams are before you get involved with them. Most scams are fairly easy to spot, but it is also important to realize that a lot of scams are being perpetrated by unscrupulous individuals who are out to get your money.

An advance fee scam is one of the more popular forms of con jobs and is often referred to as a ‘get rich quick’ scheme. The scam usually involves someone selling an item or service that is worthless, claiming that they will be able to get you rich if you give them a deposit upfront. In exchange for the large up-front payment, the scammer takes a large percentage of the total sum you receive from the transaction. The truth is, most of these types of scams are nothing more than blatant attempts at scams, but if you are looking to get rich quick, you may be interested in trying one of these scams out.

Other types of scams involve fraudulent companies, promising you legitimate money making opportunities that are in fact nothing more than pyramid schemes. These pyramid schemes are designed to lure people in with the promise that if you sign up with their company, you can earn large sums of money over a short period of time. However, once you have made the initial investment into the company and paid their monthly fees, you will be unable to withdraw your earnings or use them to make any purchases that require cash.

Fraudulent phone companies are another type of scam, where someone calls you up and claims to be calling from a reputable company. Unfortunately, once the call is placed, they will try to recruit you into the company. Although the person may sound reputable, in actuality they are a fraud and will tell you things like how much they can make over the phone, or will tell you that if you sign up for their service you will be working exclusively for them. Needless to say, this is a very convincing sales technique and it is extremely important to be aware of these types of companies in order to avoid becoming a victim of one.

Business scams can be hard to spot, and they can occur with just about any type of business. If you are working as a secretary in a doctor’s office, you will likely receive calls from individuals who want to buy your services and will try to sell you on some type of medical product that they say is the best for your situation. These individuals may claim to have a cure for your ailment and will often give you a list of testimonials from previous clients.

One of the best ways to stay away from real life scams is to be honest with potential businesses and ask to see proof of employment or references before giving them any type of financial backing. This way you can make sure that the business is legitimate before you give it any money. Even though it may take a bit of research to find out what other people think about a certain business, it will be worth it in the end. Once you have found a reputable company to work with, simply pay the fee and make the purchase and watch the money roll in!
